Choosing the right mascara can greatly enhance your lashes and complete your eye makeup look. Here are some factors to consider when selecting a mascara:
Lengthening, volumising, defining or curling – Determine your main goal for your lashes. If you want to add length, look for mascaras that are specifically lengthening such as our Feature Length Lash Lover. For added volume, opt for mascaras that provide a volumising effect like our Showstopping Lash Lover. If you desire a defined lash, consider choosing either our Amplifying Lash Lover or Intensifying Lash Lover.
Formula – Mascaras come in various formulas, such as waterproof, smudge-proof, or regular. Waterproof mascaras are suitable for occasions where you may encounter water, sweat or tears, as they are more resistant to smudging or running. Smudge-proof mascaras offer better longevity and resist smudging throughout the day. Regular mascaras are easier to remove and may be preferable for everyday use.
Brush/wand type – Different mascara wands offer different effects. For example, curved wands can help lift and curl lashes, while straight wands provide even application. Thin wands with short bristles can separate and define lashes, while thicker wands with dense bristles can add volume. Consider your lash type and desired effect when choosing the wand type.
Lash type – Consider your natural lashes when selecting mascara. If you have short lashes, look for lengthening mascaras. If your lashes are sparse or thin, volumising mascaras can help create a fuller look. For straight lashes, consider a curling mascara or use an eyelash curler before applying mascara.
Sensitivity – If you have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses, choose a mascara that is labelled as suitable for sensitive eyes or contact lens wearers. These formulas are usually gentler and less likely to cause irritation or discomfort.
We advise using a maximum of 3 layers when wearing mascara. A single coat applied directly from the root is perfect for a natural but noticeable enhancement. For extra thickness and length apply a second coat and then one more for that dramatic oomph. Exceeding 3 coats could make your mascara flaky and may make your eyes feel heavy.
The PAO (Period After Opening) for all our mascaras is 6 months. A PAO symbol looks like a little open pot and will appear on the packaging of your consumable products. There will be a number inside of the symbol with an M next to it – this indicates how many months you should continue to use the product after opening before replacing it. It is important to consider the PAOs of your products, as using expired makeup will mean it’s not performing its best and can cause irritation to your skin or eyes.
No, it is not recommended to pump your mascara brush in and out of the tube, as this can introduce air causing the mascara to dry out more quickly. It can also increase the risk of bacterial contamination as the pumping action can push air and bacteria into the product.
Instead of pumping, it’s better to twist the wand inside the tube when you want to pick up more product. Gently swirling the wand will help to coat it with mascara without introducing excess air. This method allows you to maintain the quality and longevity of your mascara by preventing it from drying out prematurely.
Remember to always ensure that the mascara tube is tightly closed after each use to further protect it from air exposure and potential contamination.
Yes, our Amplifying Lash Lover Mascara has been ophthalmologically tested and is suitable for contact lens wearers.
The best way to remove mascara is with a specific gentle eye makeup remover or with our Clarifying Cleansing Balm. The rich emulsion of Coconut, Baobab and Tsubaki oils nourishes and hydrates the skin whilst melting away all remnants of makeup, SPF, daily impurities and grime. If not cleaned away properly, mascara particles can persist and stick to your lashes for days, which can lead to bacteria build-up and irritation.
Using the nail plates gently lift out a coin-size of the cleansing balm and soften between the fingers. Apply to the face and upper neck using circular motions and continue massaging onto the skin and eyes to dissolve makeup and excess oils. When ready to remove soak your cleansing cloth in warm water. Wipe over the whole face and neck to remove the cleansing balm, taking care around the delicate eye area.
