The best way to apply eyeshadow is by placing a transition shade down first. This is a shade closest to your skin tone and should be blended with a soft, fluffy eyeshadow brush into the crease. Your transition shade will cut down the amount of blending needed by tying the look together with its compatibility to your natural shade. This means colours won’t appear harsh against your natural complexion, instead they will appear seamless and blended.
Next, choose a darker shade in the same colour family as your transition colour and sweep along your eye socket to add definition to the eye.
The goal for eyeshadow looks on hooded eyes is to create more visible eyelid space. You can do this by uplifting every aspect of your eyeshadow so that all your hard work doesn’t get hidden when you’re looking straight ahead.
Make sure to blend any eyeshadow above your crease, so it’s visible when your eyes are open and looking straight ahead. You can also opt for a highlighting product to brighten and lift certain areas. Try using a shimmery shade, near to the shade of your skin tone and apply over the centre of the lid, inner corner and brow bone. The light will catch the shimmer and give the illusion of more lid space and brighter eyes.

Eyeshadow creasing can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to help prevent it:
Avoid heavy creams or oils – Avoid applying heavy creams or oils to your eyelids before eyeshadow application, as they can contribute to creasing. If you need to moisturise your eyelids, use a lightweight eye cream and make sure to let it fully absorb before applying any makeup.
Apply an eyeshadow primer – Gently pat a small amount of primer over your lids using your index finger.
Set your eyelids – After applying the eyeshadow primer, set it with our Illusionist Translucent Powder. This helps to absorb any excess oil on your eyelids and provides a smooth base for the eyeshadow application.
Apply thin layers of eyeshadow – Apply eyeshadow in thin layers, gradually building up the colour and intensity. If you apply too much eyeshadow at once, it can lead to creasing. Use a light hand and blend the eyeshadow well for a seamless look.
Set your eyeshadow – After applying the eyeshadow, lightly dust our Illusionist Translucent Powder over your eyelids to set the eyeshadow. This helps to further prevent creasing and increase the longevity of your eye makeup.
Set with a spray – After completing your eye makeup, use a setting spray to lock everything in place.
Touch up throughout the day – If you notice any creasing or fading during the day, gently blend out the creased area with a clean Eye Blend Brush or fingertip. You can also apply a small amount of eyeshadow to touch up the colour.
Blend a neutral brown matte shadow into the crease of your eye for a subtly defined, everyday look. To add a little more to the look, use a shimmer over the lid to highlight and make your eyes pop. To intensify the look, we recommend using any deeper shades in the crease and outer third of your eye. You can also add a metallic shadow to the centre of your lid for extra glitz and glamour.
Creating the perfect smokey eye look is all about the blending. Here is a step-by-step guide to creating the perfect smokey eye:
1. Choose a transition colour (a colour lighter than the darkest colour in your chosen Mii palette), such as a light brown. Use our Eye Blend Brush to blend it into the whole crease of your eye. This will make it easier to blend the darker colours seamlessly into your look.
2. Now pick a darker shade, such as a darker brown and use the smaller, more precise Eye Crease Brush to place the shadow on the outer third of your eye.
3. Take the Eye Blend Brush again and blend your darker shade into your transition shade. Ensure to blend any harsh lines on the outer part of your eye. You can blend this as far out or as high up as you like, to make your look as smokey as you like.
4. On the centre of the lid, you can either pack on a metallic or shimmer shadow, or take your transition shade and blend it all over the lid, depending on whether you’re after more of a matte or glam look.
5. Finally, use our Eye Smudge Brush and apply the darker shade on the outer third of your bottom lash line, smudging it out to ensure no harsh edges.
6. Finish your look with a couple of coats of your favourite Mii mascara and you are good to go.
